PL-300 Exam Strategy

1. Prepare by decisions, not definitions

• For each feature, know the problem it solves and the closest distractor it is commonly confused with.
• Practice distinctions: Import vs DirectQuery vs DirectLake; Merge vs Append; calculated column vs measure; Drillthrough vs tooltip; App audience vs RLS; Build vs workspace role.
• When a question asks for the “best” solution, prefer the simplest supported option that meets all requirements with least privilege and maintainability.

2. Translate the scenario into constraints

• Underline mentally: source type, freshness, data size, model grain, who needs access, what must remain filtered, and where the output must appear.
• Eliminate answers that solve a different layer. Example: RLS does not decide which reports an app audience sees; app audiences do not restrict rows.
• For DAX, identify current filter context before reading the formula options.

3. Watch for strong clue words

• “Create new reports from this model” → Build permission.
• “Pixel-perfect, multipage, printable” → paginated report.
• “Why is this visual slow?” → Performance Analyzer.
• “Who is viewing this content?” → Usage metrics.
• “Which downstream artifacts are affected?” → lineage/impact analysis.
• “Signed-in user sees only assigned rows” → dynamic RLS pattern.

4. Manage time deliberately

• Do not spend several minutes proving one difficult question while easier questions remain.
• Make the best supported choice, mark uncertain items for review where the exam interface allows, and return later.
• Keep enough final time to reread multi-select and scenario questions for hidden qualifiers such as least privilege, without changing the model, or preserve other filters.

5. Use official exam-experience resources

Before exam day, use Microsoft's current certification page, study guide, practice assessment and exam sandbox so the interaction style is not new on the day. This site's mock exam is for knowledge and timing practice; its raw percentage is not Microsoft's scaled score.
